The Upside Of Anger Will not Keep You Down
All of us have this connotation that anger is a bad and negative emotion. It has certain degrees, but there is a common denominator: an angry person has a strong feeling of dislike towards another person or a certain situation. It is not at all bad to feel angry. In fact, it is a healthy and normal emotion. It only gets destructive once blown out of proportion. Such scenario cannot be avoided, especially when aging and temper can easily get out of hand. Teenagers, too, are angered by even the shallowest things, as their emotions seem to go on a rollercoaster ride once in a while. There is the upside of anger, and anyone can discover it.
“Anger” and “upside” are probably the two words that one does not usually put together, as they rarely connect. But, upon much pondering and thinking, one can actually come to a realization that the upside of anger balances emotions. One “benefit” of anger is that you get to express yourself and your emotions. Suppose that a friend of yours dropped an offensive comment about you. You took offense, but it is probable that he or she did not mean anything by it. Nevertheless, you are angered. Throwing a fit or ignoring your friend are ways to expressing and letting out that anger. However, there is nothing healthy in that. The conflict between the two of you is not solved. Although, it is good that you vent out that negative vibe.
The upside of anger requires one to use the power of that emotion in solving the conflict, instead of making it worse. One is to communicate in the wisest and most objective way that you can. This is hard to do because anger is such a powerful emotion, but not impossible. Focus on the situation, not on yourselves. Another is to diverge yourselves in ways that can solve and end the conflict. As they say, do not dwell on the past. This keeps it going in circles. Move on. Move up. Move forward.
On your own, you can discover the upside of anger once you realize and recognize that anger is healthy and normal. If you find yourself overwhelmed by anger, appease yourself first before you take on the situation. That way, there is less chance for the conflict to aggravate. Optimism, courage, and determination are your innate “tools” for anger management.
Always aim for healthy anger, even though it sounds contradictory. You will know that you have such type of anger when you find it associated with positive traits and emotions, such as love and enthusiasm. Physically and emotionally, you feel much better and livelier when you have healthy anger. These things should be enough motivation for one to strive for this.
Basically, the upside of anger helps one focus all his or her energy and the power of anger to solving the conflict, rather than worsening it. Proper and fair expression of the emotion is another upside of it.
